 There is a place where past and present intersect, for better or for worse. It is midnight, and the sky bleeds inky blackness into the landscape below it.  The wind howls low and soft through the winter trees that surrender themselves to the cold.  It is a time when dark deeds are performed, when dark rites and rituals are whispered secretly behind masked faces, when shockingly ancient men and women perform equally ancient services (to whom, it is whispered, no one truly knows), as the dark sky watches above.  The stars above, though pinpricks of light and comfort they would normally be, offer no support to the poor souls who travel abroad
